Free bananas might be the one thing that’ll satisfy Amazon employees who have to return to the office five days a week. Logan Roy says, “F–k the fruit!”

In a stinging new ad from Asics, makers of running shoes and active wear, those of us who are tied to a desk much of the day are advised to take a break, for the good of our mental health.

Actor Brian Cox — who played the cantankerous media mogul Roy on HBO’s “Succession” — doesn’t play a boss in the new ad, but he is bossy about insisting workers get away from their desks and get some exercise. And he takes what we and YouTube commenters see as a pretty clear shot at Amazon along the way, without naming the tech giant.

Stepping from behind a giant desk, Cox says, “Look at you, trading your own mental health for free fruit and a wellness Wednesday.” The camera cuts to a close shot of Cox dismissively asking, “Banana, anyone?” before a shot of a rotting banana on the desk.

Amazon famously gives out free bananas — to employees and the public — from stands located on its Seattle headquarters campus. “Banistas” first started handing out the free fruit in 2015, and the company now gives out thousands a day.

“Bananas are a great healthy snack with built-in compostable packaging,” the company has previously said.

Asics says it just wants people to be healthier, and it apparently starts with a 15-minute desk break. The Japanese brand has set up a dedicated website pointing to research from an experiment where participants took regular movement breaks, which increased confidence and productivity and decreased stress and anxiety.

Asics also offers a guide to getting started and encourages desk breakers to share images of their empty desks on social media.

Hmm. A movement featuring empty desks in the workplace. Wonder how that’ll land at Amazon.
