Tech Moves: Microsoft vet joins UiPath board; Trupanion names COO; and more Taylor Soper

S. “Soma” Somasegar, a longtime former Microsoft leader, joined the board of directors at robotic process automation company UiPath.

Somasegar, now a managing director at Seattle venture firm Madrona, said UiPath is “leading the way in using software robots and agents to unlock the next wave of business process transformation,” in a LinkedIn post.

Somasegar spent 27 years at Microsoft in various leadership roles, including as senior vice president of the developer division. In 2015 he joined Madrona, which invested in UiPath in 2018 before it went public in 2021.

“His well-developed understanding of the enterprise technology landscape will be important as we pursue our mission to help customers achieve more impactful business outcomes with the UiPath enterprise automation and AI platform,” UiPath CEO Daniel Dines said in a statement.

Other key personnel changes across the Pacific Northwest tech industry:

— The Washington State Department of Commerce named Grace Yoo as its new assistant director. Yoo was previously executive director at the Washington State Women’s Commission. She also worked at Starbucks on environment-related efforts and spent more than a decade at the U.S. Department of State.

— Seattle pet insurance company Trupanion named John Gallagher as its new chief operating officer. Gallagher joined Trupanion seven years ago and was most recently executive vice president of global shared services.

— The Washington Research Foundation named Connie Collingsworth to its board of directors. Collingsworth previously was COO and chief legal officer at the Gates Foundation.
