Seattle Seahawks fans will have more “Just Walk Out” options at Lumen Field this season thanks to the addition of six new stores featuring Amazon’s cashierless technology.
With 13 concession stands and two retail shops powered by the checkout-free Just Walk Out system, Lumen Field — just down the street from Amazon HQ — now has more of the technology than any sports venue in the world.
The concession stands are powered by overhead cameras that track people and the items they pick up, charging them as they walk out the store.
The retail locations — selling clothing, hats, fan gear, and more soft goods — feature radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags as part of the Just Walk Out experience. The first such store opened last year at Lumen, and GeekWire gave it a test run. The new store will be added next to Section 123.
The new Fly Thru Markets, serving a variety of beverages, will be added to sections 114, 304, 310, 334 and 340.
The first Just Walk Out store at Lumen Field opened in 2022. Amazon said the store reported a 60% increase in customer throughput and total transactions per game doubled compared to the traditional concession stand that was in the same location.
The Seahawks said concession transactions per game have increased 32% at Lumen Field since Just Walk Out was first implemented.
Just Walk Out technology is now available in more than 80 sports stadiums and arenas across the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada, according to Amazon.
At Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md., Washington Commanders fans will be greeted by seven new Just Walk Out locations within the stadium — the most stores launched at once for a sports stadium. Just Walk Out will also debut at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium this season. The tech is also in use at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., and Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Amazon opened its first Go convenience, featuring Just Walk Out, in 2018 in Seattle. The company has since sold the technology to a variety of third-party retailers that operate their own stores.
Just Walk Out is available in more than 180 third-party locations in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia, across grocery stores, airport travel retailers, music and sports venues, theme parks, and shops and cafes on college campuses.
Amazon also announced Tuesday that Just Walk Out is spreading to more university campuses in the U.S. and elsewhere. There are more than 30 stores on college campuses worldwide featuring Just Walk Out.
Amazon is removing Just Walk Out in most of its large-format Amazon Fresh grocery stores, and will instead focus on the company’s Dash Carts.
