Devin Lammers, a longtime leader in the agriculture technology industry, joined rock-mapping and picking technology startup TerraClear as its new CEO.

Lammers held exec roles at P4P Energy, ATDynamics, and EY-Parthenon before serving as president at supply chain startup Gradable for four years. More recently he led Farmer’s Business Network as its interim CEO.

Lammers will take over for Brent Frei, who founded TerraClear in 2017 with the goal of simplifying the arduous task of removing large rocks from farmers’ fields.

The startup, based in Issaquah, Wash., and Grangeville, Idaho, has spent the past several years developing AI and machine learning technology that powers its system used by more than 100 farming customers across the Midwest.

Frei said the company is primed for a go-to-market push — and that Lammers was the perfect person to lead the charge.

“He is absolutely what we need at this stage of the business,” Frei said.

Lammers, who grew up on a multi-generational family farm in South Dakota, said he was impressed by TerraClear’s technology and value proposition. He called rock-clearing a “perennial challenge” for farmers that is traditionally solved by recruiting kids from the local community for a couple weeks.

“Part of what sold me on TerraClear was going out to Grangeville and seeing the team and the tech operate in real life, and seeing how capable it is,” said Lammers, who is based in Boulder, Colo.

TerraClear employs 38 people and recently raised a $15 million Series A round from Madrona and other backers.

Trevor Thompson, former president at TerraClear, left the company in June and is now at San Francisco AI startup Scale AI.

Other key personnel changes across the Pacific Northwest:

Chris Polishuk joined Seattle marketing data startup Amperity as chief revenue officer. Polishuk previously held the same role at SPINS and Lucidworks.

Sachin Jain joined cloud infrastructure company CoreWeave as chief operating officer. Jain, based in Seattle, was previously a vice president at Amazon and Google, and most recently was a senior vice president at Oracle.

Claire Fang joined behavioral data platform company Fullstory as chief product and technology officer. Fang was previously chief product officer at Seattle startup SeekOut and experience management giant Qualtrics.

— Amir Moftakhar joined Seattle clean energy startup Modern Hydrogen as chief financial officer. Moftakhar previously was CFO at Underdog Capital and ESS.

Lila Tretikov, the former deputy chief technology officer at Microsoft who is now head of AI strategy at NEA, joined the board of directors at Zendesk.

Stephanie Smith was promoted to chief people officer at Seattle-area audience experience company Tagboard.
