Amazon seems to have figured out a consistent approach to scheduling Amazon Prime Day, with the 10th installment in the annual summer shopping sale set for July 16 and 17, 2024, according to an announcement overnight by the company.

This will be the third straight year that Amazon has held the event on the Tuesday and Wednesday of the third week in July, if you look at the third row down on a calendar that defines the week as Sunday through Saturday.

If the company sticks to this pattern, it should take some of the guesswork out of the annual tradition of trying to predict the Amazon Prime Day dates, which can be a dicey proposition, as certain news sites learned this year.

More than mere trivia, the timing matters to Amazon sellers, partners, and competitors seeking to capitalize on the buzz around the annual event. In the latter category, Walmart announced that its “Walmart Deals” savings event will run from the afternoon of Monday, July 8, through Thursday, July 11.

The annual events help to boost sales volume for Amazon and other online retailers during the summer months, in the lead-up to back-to-school shopping.

The first day of Prime Day 2023, July 11, marked the largest single sales day in Amazon’s history at the time, according to the company.

Amazon held the first Prime Day in July 2015. The company has experimented with different scheduling approaches over the years, holding the event in October 2020 due to the pandemic, and then in June 2021, before returning to July in 2022.

Last year, the company held a separate “Prime Big Deal Days” event Oct. 10-11, shoehorning another sales event between back-to-school and the holidays.

Beyond the calendar, Prime Day overall has also fallen into more of a pattern. Prime members will again get early access to certain deals, and they can request invitations to purchase selected deals, an approach introduced last year.

Probably the biggest surprise for 2024 is that Prime Day has its own song and music video, featuring Megan Thee Stallion, with an especially memorable hook.
